Yankees Ignored Inflation in Rodriguez Dealings

Submitted by Francine Menaker, Oct 30, 2007 12:32

Using A-Rod's difference of 58% more than the average of the next five top players doesn't hold up because, as the Rangers soon realized, that amount was monumental folly. Hence they paid the Yankees 7.5 million per year to take, arguably, the best player in baseball off their hands. Moreover, even at that salary, A-Rod was desperate to escape Texas, and , had the player's association allowed it, would have restructured the contract and taken less money.

The Rangers "made the market," but it was based on faulty judgment and shouldn't serve as a benchmark or baseline for anything.

Even Scott Boras has not YET had the gall to speak of a number over 30MM per year.
