Governor To Bet Billions on SUNY

Submitted by sid, Oct 30, 2007 15:09

This is the educational equivalent of closing the barn door after the horses have escaped. Instead of giving billions of dollars to college educators who have no idea how to teach children, why not establish early childhood education centers in communities, starting in poor communities, to teach reading, writing, math and computer literacy to preschool children via computerized learning programs in half day programs so that when they enter first grade they will have the tools they need to learn. Why are we so intent on playing catch up, which is the most ineffecient way of solving the problem except that it is the most efficient way of siphoning public money to the governor's friends much as Bloomberg has done with his friends who are now "educational consultants." When will minority and taxpayer organizations finally wake up, or is everyone being paid off to ignore real solutions that actually benefit kids. Starting college in sixth grade will not help kids read.
