As a veteran of WWII and an observer of New York City's tough stand on lawful citizens possing firearms, I would like to remind the mayor that the Bill of Rights was drafted to protect law abiding citizens against oppressive government. It certainly was not written to give government any rights. Government's never have rights, they have powers, in the case of our government, they have powers given by the people. There are only five out of the ten bill of rights amendments that mention the people, the first, second, fourth, ninth and tenth amendments. And when it says "the right of the people, etc), it does'nt mean the right of the government. Charles O'Laughlin Brooklyn, NY
