I enjoy Mr. Friedwald's jazz articles in the Sun, but I have a friendly suggestion. I am an interested "jazz novice"; Mr. Freidwald's writing often moves me seek out a particular performer's opus. But, I hesitate at Mr. Friedwald's recording recommendations, as they are almost always encyclopedic box-sets. I would welcome, in addition to the set, is the recommendation of one or two single-disc recordings by the artist in question. I am much more willing to get acquainted with an artist through buying one or two discs, than, say, seven. I need a one-disc a "first date" before I consider "going steady" with a box set.
