Does Traffic-Tax Plan Affect Ticketing Policy?

Submitted by Eric, Nov 7, 2007 10:32

In 37 years in NYC (20 of which I owned a car), I have never seen such an injustice of the ticketing enforcement. In the East Village/Lower East Side, anyone can come from out of town any given Friday or Saturday night, park in front of fire hydrants, in no standing zones, and doubled up on narrow streets, yet remain unticketed. BUT sure enough, come 9:01AM on Monday morning, if you (read: a resident) have not moved for alternate side parking, the meter maids are out in force. (The meter maids actually told me they "do not come around on the weekends...")

Also, it has always been custom (during alternate side parking days) to move your car across the street for the street sweeper, return your car to its spot after the cleaner has gone, then go on your merry way. NOW you are expected to sit with your car for the entire 1-1/2 hour period. This is an outrage. The sweeper did its job. This city is determined to rid itself of lower income residents; these are just two examples of blatant harassment we have had to face in the last five or so years. Thanks Bloomy!
