As a lifelong, devoted resident of Brooklyn, I have been happy with some of the recent development that has come to the borough in the last 10 years. While I am very happy about the recent addtions of some larger retailers on Atlantic Avenue, I am vehemently opposed to the proposed Atlantic Yards project. Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues has always been a highly congested area for more than 50 years and certainly remains so today. The Atlantic Yards project does nothing for the residents of Brooklyn. It merely serves the monied real estate developers and city politicians looking to get more revenue and just plain greedy money. The borough does NOT need a sports arena NOR a new performing arts center (with one of the best-BAM- already in that area. What it DOES need is, more middle income, affordable housing for PEOPLE, who want to continue to live here. The MANHATTANIZATION of BROOKLYN is NOT what its residents want. WE DO NOT WANT TO BE "A SECOND MANHATTAN"!!!!!!
