Mets Need Crafty, Albeit Unglamorous, Offseason

Barry Bonds is intriguing, but I think that's the A-Rod lite move. It may create more problems than it solves by forcing Alou to RF and perhaps dramatically increasing the wear and tear on Carlos Beltran.

I strongly suspect that Omar simply must kick the tires on A-Rod, based on due diligence alone. If you have that kind of money you simply have to ask about him.

One thing Minaya has excelled at is finding arms in Filene's basement and working with Professor Rick to find a spot. I wonder if another former Yankee, Jose Contreras, might be had on the cheap. His numbers were wretched last season but on the THT page it looks as though his defense was woeful. Take a moderate flyball pitcher out of the AL and put a decent defense behind him you might get a useful guy.
