Andrew Wolf's op-ed "In Praise Of Congestion" highlights the lengths congestion pricing opponents will go to dupe the public into opposing a fee 95% of them will never pay. For example, Wolf warns that he (and others) "might well decide that I'm better off doing my shopping in Westchester" if faced with congestion pricing fees. I don't know what is more unlikely: That Westchester's shopping malls will overtake New York City's as America's premiere shopping destination because of an $8 fee or that Wolf's employers give him enough free time during working hours to drive from the Sun's Manhattan office to Westchester to shop. Those who work in Manhattan weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (the only time congestion fees apply), if they can shop during working hours at all, only have time to do so in Manhattan. Wolf discredits himself by conveniently forgetting that congestion pricing does not apply at night and on weekends when most people shop. If Wolf wants to become a mouthpiece for Deadbeat Drivers who oppose congestion pricing, so be it, but he should refrain from using absurd arguments to conceal their true motive: To save themselves eight bucks.
