Painting When Painting was Dead
in response to reader comment: I always wanted to know...

I stepped back after creating the abstract work when its evolution of that particular form depleated. I wanted my work to be in nature not make pictures of it. Commodifying nature was wrong to me. However I refuse to be too repetitive. In my reclusive nature. I was ignored. I think Darren Waterstone's work comes close without the cute smoke and mirrrors. ( His work came after mine ) Anyhow I am a brave man and I have a day job. I think an artist in the vital company of fellow artists do respond to others in some very wonderfull ways. There is a lot of exciting work around. The world of painting has not ended as I was repeatedly told. There are minds evolving along with the consumer and promotional world of medias. It is a very difficult place to compete. New talents appear all the time. Only a few are chosen and only a few carry on who do not have the time or money or backing to get placed by a gatekeeper gallery. A good serious artist must keep an eye on the competition. Always looking for yummy creative tidbits on others plates. But not necesarrily the lucky ones who become popular and sadly formulaic and so consumable. So what is this thing they call art?? Now that it seeems to be everywhere and anything? ..answer ; True Art is no wear and nothing; In the words of Lao Tzu, "they who tell do not know; they who know do not tell." After exhausting myself in the stacks in the fine arts library , Trying like most students to grasp the history of art as communication I came to the conclusion that art, creation in the mental conception , can and should follow a natural and instinctive course. How you move and were you move your mind and your hand, evident by the traces, impressions, documents or even facsimiles these reflexive journeys or processes make art that is as much a narrative as a diary of experience. One teacher told me it was more important to get a life than get into a studio to make "an art career". You don't have to play by any rules or worry about breaking them and if you feel you need to play the game of culture how would you ever prepare your self to take a leap of faith into the great unknown? I play at failing art career to support my case of personal struggle and pure joy of mindless creation. Culture and the world as we know it is fractured and exhausted. Art is commercial. It is a lot of dead fish from polluted seas stacked up in a noisy market place. I am an Idiot. I can do whatever I like with the form of painting due to my gifted ability but I chose to play the fool and have simple fun with my mind and hands. http://www.friendster.com/photos/25887404 http://www.flickr.com/photos/7163989@N04/ Sorry I will have to scan or reshoot in digital my older work...
