Perhaps Congressman Paul seems so prescient because he has understood from the beginning that maintaining a global empire always requires debasement of the currency. This has been true since the reign of Roman emperor Diocletian, but it's a lesson that politicians and their courtiers (in the bureaucracy and in the press) prefer to ignore.
