Does Traffic-Tax Plan Affect Ticketing Policy?

Submitted by John Gallagher makes ludicrous statement, Nov 12, 2007 10:32

"Any suggestion that we're not enforcing traffic laws and regulations is absurd," a spokesman for Mr. Bloomberg, John Gallagher, " - Is this a Joke? John Gallagher is an embarassment for the Mayor, and the NYPD, making a hypocritic claim like this. The NYPD's own Final Environmental Impact Statement, released this summer, recorded over 1,000 illegally parked government sector vehicles on an average working day in the area around One Police Plaza; this is only a small few-blocks area - and it is not counting the rest of downtown/Tribeca area; in these few blocks, that adds up to well over 1,250,000 parking violations that the NYPD has ignored since 9/11. The Mayor and the NYPD are encouraging many thousands of government sector commuters to drive in and park in Manhattan illegally ... for "free". This has cost the CITY about $300-million in lost parking meter revenue alone since 9/11 [Bruce Schaller report, 2006]. What would help this situation, and practically no cost, is permanent NO PERMIT PARKING signs all over the CITY, especially in D.O.T. designated No Permit Areas like Downtown Manhattan. Community Board 3 has passed a resolution requesting Permanent "NO PERMIT PARKING" signage from the Department of Transportation. The Mayor needs to give the D.O.T. the go-ahead on permanent NO PERMIT PARKING signs, reducing congestion by thousands a day, and give New Yorkers some relief from traffic congestion and illegal permit abuse.
