Colonizing Barnard

El-Haj's fraudulent "scholarly work" against the historical reality of ancient Israel is a reaction to the absurd claim of Zionists that European Jews with a murky claim to extremely remote Israelite descent were the rightful occupants of 20th century Palestine. A claim which was not made by the original Zionists: Palestine was supposed to be empty. One might further note that the early Zionists regarded themselves as halutzim (pioneers) in a wilderness. Israel was supposed to be a settler colony, not a plantation colony. (There was criticism of some First Aliyah migrants for setting up farms and orchards worked by hired Arab labor.) The colonialism charge has a core of merit, even if the Arab response to Zionism has totally lacked merit of any kind. (And one should distinguish settlement from conquest and exploitation. It was one thing for Asian Indians to demand that the British all leave. It would be another for American Indians to do so.)
