The euro was worth as little as 84 cents in 2001 (in June and July). Six years later, it is worth $1.47 (as of November 18). So look at it from the point of view of a Frenchman who last shopped in NYC with euros in mid-2001 and took a fancy then to a condo priced at $1 million. Let's say it is on the market again today at $1.47 million. To the Frenchman, the higher price seems, merveilleusement, like a cut in price to $840,000.
