in response to reader comment: Response of Masoud Barzani President of Kurdistan region on the Baker-Hamilton report

Submitted by Safeen R. Sindi, Dec 13, 2006 16:57

I can't agree more with President Barzani. Simply & apparently, the Baker-Hamilton group doesn't have touch with Iraq's reality. The problems in Iraq will be solved by Iraqis with the help of the International community. The Baker-Hamilton group suggests basically regressing to Iraq's futile & disfunctional previous system of governance. Iraq went through destruction, genocide, ethnic cleansening & multiple wars because of the grip of the center on power. The Iraqi Shiites & Kurds who combined make 80% of the population were singled out under Saddam's rule. Now, the Baker-Hamilton group suggest the same system again. If any, it will help dictatorships in Syria, Iran & above all, the hardline & exstermist elements of the past & such ideas. This will kill the chance of the 12 million Iraqis who voted in achieving democracy & freedom. And last but not least it would prove wrong the tremendous efforts by the brave men & women of the US armed forces & above all those who paid the ultimate price.
