The numbers quoted of sex-selection abortions and missing girls are totally off the mark.
The 2000 census People's Republic of China reported 653,000,000 males and 612,000,000 females, which means that there were already 41,000,000 fewer females in 2000 in China.
At 1.7 million girls missing each year (Unicef's reported birth/ boy-girl birth ratio) — and the documented gap in boy-girl ratio widening — it is projected that when China's population growth levels off in 2040, over 133,000,000 women would be missing.
