For What the Thanks

Submitted by Doug Robertson, Nov 22, 2007 18:57

Good Lord, yes we have plenty to be thankful for in the US. And lots to be disgusted about under this current administration. Some of the comments about why we should be thankful are ludicrous given the current situations around the world which, by the way, we created.

We respect the sovereignty of nations? Yeah, unless we want to bomb the hell out of them. At least we know how to lie well to justify that, I guess.

Sure, we step up to the plate when a tsunami hits Indonesia or there's an earthquake in Pakistan, dispatched as noted within hours! We should, we're cool that way. Too bad we can't seem to find New Orleans on the map when need be.

I'd hardly say we are a success at the fledgling post-Taliban regime in Afghanistan, either. Guess what, they're baaaaaack...

So the pilgrims gave thanks that there was a place for them in this fine land. Great. Of course, what has now become our place, sea to shining sea, was taken by force. The first extended shock and awe.

Yeah, I'm thankful for a lot of things, including the luck of the draw that put me here in America, but is the country pedestal-worthy? Hardly. History proves that.
