Israel's Avigdor Lieberman proves that Noam Chomsky is correct when he calls today's Israel "an extension of the US". Lieberman is trying to imitate US policy in jettisoning democracy in favor of a totalitarian state based on ethnic criteria. To be sure, non-Jews will be tolerated, if they are willing to grovel and swear allegiance to Lieberman's extremist form of Zionism. I myself grew up singing the theme song from the film Exodus, with an idealistic view of Israel, but I am becoming disgusted as I see the direction in which that country has been going. I know that not all Israelis want it to become just another instrument of Western oppression of non-Western peoples, but Lieberman would silence these dissident voices and base the rights of citizenship upon the willingness of Israelis to continue this oppression. In doing so, he would be having Israel follow in the fascist path which the US is now taking by imprisoning, torturing, and murdering Muslims and attempting to legalize such unconstitutional behavior in the Military Commissions Act. He is a disgrace to Israel, just as George Bush is a disgrace to our nation.
