"The child of a same sex couple will want to know about the missing parent."

Er... no.

The notion that a child with two mothers thinks they have a "missing parent" is not borne out by any actual experience. All children know their own families are normal. A child with two mothers will think that a child with only one mother has a "missing parent"... because normal families have two.

Children who are lied to, either directly or indirectly, sometimes have a problem with their parentage. But one thing same-sex couples are good at - whether they have children by adoption, fostering, AID, or previous marriage - is not lying to their children. Unlike a mixed-sex couple where the non-biological parent - or parents - may have an investment in not letting their children know there's no genetic link, a same-sex couple has no such motivation for dishonesty.

There is no evidence at all - from any reputable, peer-reviewed study - that children with same-gendered parents are in any way inferior or damaged by the experience: where differences can be established, they fall out in favor of a same-gendered parent (for example, that same-sex couples don't lie to their children about being adopted or using AID to conceive). By this time, trying to claim anything else is bad faith argument.
