Beyond Annapolis

Annapolis and the pending summit will fail, just as every prior arrangement from Oslo to Mitchell to the Road Map have failed. The reason for these adventures is simple, the Palestinian Arabs and their Muslim cousins do not want a Jewish state, or state of the Jews in their midst. In fact, Abbas and Erekat have said a loud NO to any thought of the State of Israel being a Jewish State...that is until it goes back to the 1947 borders (as if nothing has happened in the interim). Oh give me a break.

When all the players, most especially Israel understands the reality of the M.E., conflict, that will be the beginning of a realistic move towards some kind of peaceful settlement.

There are two major avenues to achieve peace, UN242, AND The Road Map. In effect, they both require the same thing, agreeable borders where both sides can live in peace and security. The Road Map is more explicit, favoring reciprocity on both sides before the next move.

There is absolutely no need for Annapolis or the summit, which is a lose lose situation for Israel, which has nothing to gain from all this. The Palestinians on the other hand, are giving nothing in return for any Israeli compromise (of land). I ask, what responsibility do the Arabs have towards Israel? Their won't be an enforcement mechanism to insure the dismantling of the militants.

At least Hamas and Hezbollah, not privy to any deal, are calling it as it is. They are the honest combatants in this entire charade. They want Israel destroyed.

For anyone to expect Sunni Arabs to side with the US against Iran in any upcoming conflict is delusional. Iran with its nukes will of course not be intimidated by Saudi Arabia or its ally Syria. Iran has already told the world what it's plans are for Israel.

Just as Israel has not sealed off the borders with Egypt and thus allowed for the continuing smuggling of weaponry to the Palestinians, a Palestinian state, albeit miniscule, will be a magnet for every Jihadist in the Muslim world, and Europe. Every type of weaponry will flow into the fledgling state, financed by Iran and Syria and diverted US aid.

It is then that Israel's real problems will begin.
