At its basis, Israel was established as a land of refuge from persecution of Jews. If you look at its history and demographics it reflects that international mission, even extending to non-Jews from 70's boat people to present-day Somalis and other Africans. At the time of its inception (the early pioneering days of the 1890's) there was room for anyone, Jew or non-Jew to live and work the impoverished land, if they chose to. Only the Jews wanted to rebuild the land and make Jerusalem live again.
Land was purchased by benefactors like Baron Hirsch, the Rothchilds and the Straus' usually at exorbitant prices. These settlements attracted Arab laborers and benefited everyone. The fact that Israel became self-sufficient, economically and militarily strong despite huge internal Palestinian and external Arab/ international pressure, is witness to Jewish acumen...and all the while absorbing refugees. No Arab was thrown off their land until the 1948 war because of the simultaneous attack by Arabs against Jews, populations shifted. In reality, the external Arab governments at that time, indirectly created their own refugee crises, blamed the Jews and made the world pay. They are still doing it while Israel still calmly accepts new refugees and fends off their (political, economic and military) attacks..
While the UN established special funds and programs for the nearly one million Palestinian refugees, the Arab states insisted on keeping Palestinians in "camps" for generations, at the same time nearly one million ARAB JEWS were exiled from their own countries and no UNWRA aid went to them. Israel took them in. It is not the fault of the Jews that Arab culture and politics cannot solve their problems. Not only can they not solve their own problems but they have made their problems a world-wide affair. Certainly the Israelis can be more "sensitive" to their plight but after you are repeatedly attacked in war and by suicide murderers, you have a tendency to loose your sensitivity. But to the ISRAELIS CREDIT they
Instead of solving the Palestinian refugee problem, Arab (Saudi, Emirate) oil money is used to fuel the on-going problem and helped along by overly harsh critics of Israel, turncoats and back-stabbers. The type of apostate Jew that was so useful during the Middle Ages and the Inquisition.
