in response to reader comment: illegal immigrants

The Founding Fathers wisely established the separation of Church and State in the Consititution. Yet Illegal immigrants now want the Pope to use power he does not have to influence the US government. To even suggest such a tactic as a viable means of achieving their ends is ridiculous. Any student of American history knows that for decades it was deemed impossible for a Catholic to become President because of a fear of Papal influence. During the campaign for the Presidency, John Kennedy was asked what he would do if he received a directive from the Pope. John Kennedy finally put the matter to rest by making it clear that he would withdraw from the campaign if his religion became an issue. Clearly religious interference is not the way we do things around here. AMERICAN CITIZENS KNOW THAT. They deeply resent the assault upon their laws and attack upon their culture displayed by thought processes demonstrated in this article. This is the reason that those who pursue citizenship the legal way take classes in American history. It is to learn about American law and culture for the purpose of assimilation. You cannot do that by sneaking across the border. With only a superficial understanding of the this country, one cannot assimilate. Without assimilation, there is balkanization. This is the United States of America. Emphasis upon "United." Balkanization, as well as attacks upon our laws and culture, lead to anger and resentment because left unchecked those things will destroy our country as we know and love it.
