Immigrants are not like everyone else. Their immigration usually means that they have been energetic enough, intrepid enough, skilled enough, creative enough, or simply sufficiently motivated to pull up their roots and come where they can make a better life for themselves. They are a self-selecting population bringing a lot of positive qualities to their new homes. They are a major source of New York's vitality and why this city continues to be a world-wide economic and cultural leader.
