Union Vigil To Protest Teacher Performance Unit

Submitted by Norman Scott, Nov 26, 2007 01:33

TAGNYC (Teacher Advocacy Group) is the group that started appearing on the steps of Tweed in September and then went in to speak for 2 minutes each. They also protested at the UFT delegate Assembly in October over the lack of union response.

Tilson gets something right for a change in that this is about throwing a bone to some UFT members with no attempt of a follow up. The gist of Weingarten's strategy is to protect her own flank: something is brewing, get a hold of it before it gets out of control, use it for your own PR, then go away 'till next time.

Some people will be there today calling for this vigil not to be the end all but an opening salvo in a concerted response to the BloomKlein teacher bashing.
