I don't remember reading or hearing anyone think that LEGAL immigration should stop or that LEGAL immigrants weren't great contributors to this country. The problem is that the qualities, education, and contributions of legal immigrants and the education, contributions and costs of illegal immigrants are vastly different. A little research would show that legal immigrants quickly begin contributing to the nation and they financially contribute to its overal health. ILLEGAL immigrants cost us both in short term and long term money and statistically they are a drain on the overal health of the economy. If you don't believe this ask local governments that have high ILLEGAL imigration rates how they are fairing in the schools, health care system and the general economy of the area. The statistics support these facts and this difference is what the controversy is all about. Once again supporters of any immigration failed to notice the differences and the legal ramifications of ILLEGAL immigrants. You can not just lump them into one category and think the results are the same. They are not!!! We must contain our borders and we must eliminate ILLEGAL immigration or we will not be able as a country to continue with legal immigration as it now stands. That would truly be a national tragedy.
