Wisebird, please carefully think about this issue. Some 56% of illegal immigrants are coming from Mexico, so let's look at that. I sympathize with their desire to improve their economic prospects, but "to improve my life" is not a valid excuse to break the law! If it were, everybody would just break any law when they felt they could gain. Society would fall apart.

Additionally, most of the people coming from Mexico illegally are MesoAmerican Indians, and they make up 90% of the population of Mexico (That includes pure Indians and "mestizos.") They have their own country- Mexico- and they need to make that country a place worth living rather than violating our laws. Mexico has oil, tourism, large areas of fertile soils, and over 1 million U.S. jobs were moved there due to NAFTA. Mexico has no excuse to be the way it is. It appears Mexico's problems are poor economic policy, corruption, and rampant racism against the native stock, despite their official claims not to be racist. But since the native stock is 90% of the country, what kind of cowards are they that they can't demand fair treatment?

Wisebird, there are certainly instances where "illegal" immigration is justified and is not really "illegal" because it is really a case of asylum for refugees. People fleeing from Darfur fall under that category. People that fled from El Salvador during that civil war in which the U.S. unjustly intervened on the side of the right wing oppressors also were legitimate refugees.
