Its not true that shopkeepers in London barely speak English, maybe its a form of English you may not comprehend but its a type of English. I am a school governor in a school mainly populated by children of asylum seekers. Not ONE parent I can think of would not want their kids to assimilate. However the type of assimilation they don't want is the young British habit of binge drinking and promiscuous sex or 'shagging'. Many parents are scared of their children losing their identity.
