I am glad to see politicians do the right thing. My family gross income is close to the $200,000 mark discussed in the article. I live comfortably on the money I earn. I and many of my friends think it is our obligation to make sure the citizens of this great nation who are not blessed with the skills, talents and in many cases luck to make large sums of money are able to enjoy a healthy and reasonably happy lifestyle. When middle class families are being pushed out of neighborhoods they have lived in for generations because of increasing property taxes there is something wrong. When doctors and insurance companies are profiting by providing substandard healthcare there is something wrong. When the USA has a lower survival rate for children with Leukemia than Canada and Italy there is something wrong. Neither the Republicans nor Democrats seem willing to alienate the wealthy to do what is right for all of the people. I think the robber barons of old at least felt a little bit of responsibility towards those people who had helped them amass their fortunes. The wealthy of today do not seem so inclined. Enjoy your extra couple of thousand dollars so one of your buddies can profit from foreclosing on the home of a working class family facing an unpaid health insurance claim.
