In recent New York Sun Editorials (12/6/06- Bloomberg Weighs in for Bolton) and in the December 12th Editorial (Annan's L'Envoi), the New York Sun takes a strong stand for a critical look at the United Nations. Conservative thinkers, with firm ideological principles, have provided this much needed critical perspective with verve in past years. However, there is one group that has stuck to its critical guns on the United Nations since the founding of the organization. That group is the John Birch Society. While some feel that the Birchers lost some of their reason for being with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the collapse of the USSR, the John Birch Society remains a strong, and principled voice, especially when it comes to matters of the United Nations. A look at the web page provides the following bracing quote:

"Even more alarming, the United Nations is beginning to take aim at the God-given rights enjoyed by Americans since our great nation was founded. The right to self defense, use your own property, or even the right to have children may all be trampled if the United Nations is allowed to have the power it seeks."

It is my opinion that the N.Y. Sun would do its readers a great service by providing a sharp and incisive, investigative look at the current vibrant John Birch Society. The hand wringers from the left have always scoffed at the alleged paranoid bent of the JBS, but the even handed, and temperate tone of the NY Sun would give the JBS a much needed examination in these troubled, and uncertain times.
