I think the title of this article may very well be "Venezuela and Rousseau" just the same. The current government in the oil-rich country is a totalitarian democracy ruled by Hugo Chavez not unlike that of Vladimir Putin's. The coming referendum of December third will only serve to give the world an appearance of legitimacy that Chavez doesn't have. The referendum will hardly be close to being inpartial.
