It's Time To Move Past A-Rod's Salary

Submitted by Frank Zamboni, Nov 30, 2007 22:05

Where to begin... OK, firstly, there shouldn't be any worry of setting a bad "precedent," because A-Rod is an unprecedented player. So "the next time a big star" comes along and wants to play for the Yankees, well, if he happens to be a player who has an outside chance of hitting 1,000 homers in his career, the team should do whatever it takes to sign him, too. Until then, there's A-Rod, and frankly, I doubt any of us will live to see another player of his caliber, so the whole precedent thing is irrelevant. And as for Santana and his salary demands, the contract he is shooting for has more to do with what Barry Zito got and pretty much nothing to do with what A-Rod got. It's nice to hear that you have such a privileged insight into A-Rod's emotional state. Unless you are a personal friend of his (in which case, why are you publicly bashing him?), you are basing this comment solely on what you've read or seen in the media. Which means you are talking about something you know nothing about. It's silly when people do that. Then there's the comment about paying him "more than the market dictates." The funny thing about that is, what someone is willing to pay him IS the market. By offering the deal, the Yankees themselves decided what the market for A-Rod was. It was exactly the amount of the contract they agreed to. That's what a "market" is. Finally we come to your remark about A-Rod "whining about more money." I have to say that I positively defy you to show me a quote or a reference to some documented incident where A-Rod has publicly whined about money. Go on, show me. I dare you. You can't, because he has never done it. Enough said.

As a Yankee fan, I would have to disagree with your premise about A-Rod's contract. Let's dismiss for now whether... [MORE]
