The print devoted to up-to-the-minute sniffing of the political winds would be better devoted to asking: How can we win this war? My answer is that it is pathetic that the military is so starved for resources that it, and the president, must go through the agonies of Hamlet over whether to send a relative handful of additional troops to Iraq. We are engaged in a world war against militant Islam. We need a much larger army. Let's suck it up and pay the piper, and a build a force adequate to our needs. If we need to cut the government budget to pay for a larger force--and we do need to--there are many wildly expensive programs that we would be better off without, including most or all of the welfare state.
