Ms.Mellecker is terribly mistaken or mis informed,there is absoulutly no difference between a police horse & a carriage horse using the streets of NYC.Both live and work just fine thru the midtown streets,accidents happened with both types of horses however they are rare.The rider of a police horse is a trained professional,just as every carriage driver is certified by the city and trained with by a seasoned certified driver.To have a opinion on not approving of the carriage horses is your right,as its mine to own and operate 20 plus horses as my family has for over 40 yrs,but lets stick with the facts,not pour out the drama.There are NYC Mounted Police who also have a license to drive horse drawn carriages,and NYPD Officers who drive carriages regularly as well.I highly doubt these expierienced horsemen/women,would do this job if they for 1 second thought there was inhumane tactics going on.As for Ms.Mellicker,who said there will be more accidents,sounds a bit dangerous to me.
