I have no problem with the lawsuits brought against tobacco companies and asbestos manufacturers. However, dubious lawsuits against the gun industry in our country have got to stop. Firearms manufacturers are not responsible for criminal shootings.
To some, Judge Weinstein is a hero fighting against a great conspiracy by firearms manufacturers and the NRA. Likely he believes that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act is nonsense legislation. In my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth.
Any manufacturer, distributor, or retailer (of any product) who breaks the law should be prosecuted in criminal court. However, they should not be held liable for the criminal acts of end users.
It is unfortunate that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act needed to be written in the first place. The legal attacks against America's highly regulated firearms manufacturers, distributors, and dealers have been disgraceful. Would average Americans support lawsuits against Cisco Systems, Intel, and Hewlett Packard because their products are used in cyber-crimes?
I just don't think so.
