John Prudden is right that George Antonius' book, The Arab Awakening, was first published in 1938. The book was published under the sponsorship of Charles R Crane --a fanatic Judeophobe and admirer or Hitler-- and was in fact dedicated to Crane, "affectionately."
Prudden is wrong about "the scholarly merits of the book." It has been astutely debunked by at least two historians, George Kirk and Elie Kedourie. They both found the book unreliable. If Columbia University Press is still publishing the book, then that would be another reason to look askance at the university's reputation.
