The comment that preceded Danny Boy was something like, 'we gave you Italian music by a British composer, Italian music by a Venezuelan, so we wanted to do Italian piece by an Italian.' Then Polenzani launched into an Irish tune. The confusion made some people laugh. Also, we were so relieved that this feat of memorization had gone off without a hitch, so thrilled to have heard gorgeous singing, from delicate pianissimo's to clarion high notes, that we all felt like opening up to this generous, musical and emotional singer, and we all relaxed and some people giggled. We had won another encore from this terrific, engaging singer! We were happy little campers. Relax, Mr. Nordlinger. Music is to be shared, not doled out by parsimonious egotists who need us all to be good little girls and boys, OR ELSE. I'm a singer, and I feel this way on both sides of the proscenium.
