The closure of the schools means that the remaining school space will be even more overcrowded. The overcrowding is already of shocking proportions. It is partly covered up by dishonest statistical methods, chiefly achieving a larger number of seats by converting cluster spaces designed as science labs, music rooms, art studios, gyms, and others, into regular classrooms. The ornate, architectural treasure P.S. 109 is being subjectede to a no-bid giveaway to private developers for luxury artist housing subsidized by the taxpayer, all at the direct expense of the children, as part of Mayor Bloomberg's Plan 2030. The effect is to drive out families who are not able to pay for private schooling, and who rely on public education facilities.
