I sent a strong letter of protest to the Sudan Embassy in Ottawa and received the following reply.
Dear Mr. Tardif,
Your personal reaction is respected.
But the Sudan Law will continue to defend faith and the religion of its all people (Muslims, Christian, Jewish and others) anybody who wants to aid the
Sudanese and wants to work in Sudan will be always welcomed as long as he respects Sudanese Law and the faith of their people. Respect comes prior to aid in Sudan.
Unfortunately being ignorant of the Law (Any Law) is not acceptable as an excuse in the courts (Any Court). The government can not ruled out the verdict of the court, but the president can take some appeals into
consideration (which has already happened).
Instead of incites people against Sudan, why don't you take positive action and ask people who wants to travel or to work in Sudan to learn more about the culture and the Law of the country in order not to get into unnecessary troubles.
With our best regards.
So, the bottom line is that we must respect a howling mob calling for the execution of a British school teacher, and hope that the President is at home when the next incident occurs.
You would have to be mad to include Sudan in your travel plans.
