Americans don't need to learn other languages to "understand their culture. " Who cares? Unless I'm doing business with hispanics or arabs, why should I learn their language? At the same time, you don't need to learn English either. But don't bitch when you can't get that high paying job because all of that corporation's clients speak English.

The analogy is: why do I need to dress in a suit to go to work? Because it's proper decorum and shows professionalism. How many people in gangster rap baggy jeans get investment banking jobs?

Every country needs an official language in order to expedite business. Commerce would be impossible if no one understood each other. That's why the US needs to have an official language - not to exclude these people, but for the betterment of the nation.
