Sure, some people who oppose illegal immigration are racist.
I myself feel very enthusiastic about Indian immigration because it is almost wholly legal and India has already pretty much saved this country (MLK via Gahndi). Yet I am infuriated by illegal immigration, which is 78% hispanic, because I am infuriated when people intentionally violate reasonable laws or rules for their personal gain. Now Indians and hispanics have pretty much the same skin color, so am I racist?
Many other people simply are infuriated by illegal behavior on a massive scale.
People coming here in violation of reasonable and duly enacted law and then agitating to become a part of this Republic is infuriating. Don't forget that there is no famine or civil war in Mexico, Guatamala, El Salvador (currently), Venezuala, or China. It is up to these people to have the guts to improve their own countries instead of breaking our laws.
So while the rants on talk radio may veer into racism, it is just that people are so angry that extreme things get said. The Republican party has always attracted the law and order voters, so there you have it.
