Bills Are Honing Losman by Playing Against His Strengths

Submitted by Nate, Dec 15, 2006 13:01

Gee Ben Roethlisberger wasn't criticised for being a caretaker and being given a high school play book when he was winning games with the league's best running game and defense. After a nice performance in last season's playoffs the Steelers won a SB almost inspite of him as he had the lowest rating of any Super Bowl quarterback. This year with an offensive line and running game more resembling what Losman has had to work with, how's Big Ben looking? Eli Manning? Half of the Giants fans are ready to run him out of town with his up and down performances. Despite a strong runnning game featuring Tikki Barber and solid defense, Eli struggled through the second half of his sophomore season, and looked abominable in the playoff loss. Manning only looks like a better quarterback than Losman to those who can't see past his famous pedigree to see his on field performances. Phillip Rivers the supposedly least physically gifted of the quartet of first round quarterbacks is the only member of the class who's really outplaying Losman this season and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit having LaDanian Tomlinson to hand the ball to and Antonio Gates to throw to makes his job a whole lot easier. Given time to gain more experience and more talent around him JP Losman may or may not develop into an elite quarterback. But please don't imply he doesn't belong in the same conversation as Manning and Roethlisberger. None of these guys are close to being star quarterbacks yet who can carry an offense on their shoulders.
