I drive a yellow cab in Manhattan, but my own car in Brooklyn is a bicycle. I try my best to pick up and drop off passengers with utmost consideration for bicyclists, but every now and then the street, at that moment and spot, is in such a crossfire of variables that my job is made nearly impossible. I'm not trying to excuse this motorist. Just trying to put in yet another dimension to this problem. Bottom line is that there's always a way to ensure the lives of the people around you. Even if it takes a few extra seconds of patience and resourcefulness. In my line of duty, it means having my self-absorbed passengers cut my throat and slate me off as a bad cabbie when I make them walk half a block.
