I wrote the following letter to the editor criticising the decision of the New York Sun to print this sickeningly racist article. I would urge other visitors to the website and readers of the New York Sun to do the same. The revoltingly racist and inflammatory nature of this article and others by the same author should not be allowed to promote hatred and racial tensions in a tolerant city like New York.

Dear Editor,

It is shocking to see that your newspaper is now partaking of what could only be described as an overtly racist campaign to vilify people, countries and cultures from the Middle East in a manner that is nothing short of horrifying. The virulently racist tone of the article - Bedouin Darkness Spreads With Oil Money - by Youssef Ibrahim speaks for itself.

The above mentioned author has a very long record of promoting openly racist language against Arabs and this particular article takes the abysmal record in this regard to new lows. It beggars belief to think that a supposedly respectable newspaper like yours accepts such material and allows this kind of racially offensive bigotry to masquarade as journalism, when in fact, you should be aware that with this kind of language, you are, in effect making yourself into a promoter of hate in an otherwise tolerant city.

Such provocative and inflammatory material belongs perhaps on the website of a far right extremist network, not on the pages of one of New York's premiere newpapers.
