I don't know if A-Rod is worth the money...just like I don't know if Tom Hanks' latest perfomance is worth the money, or that Starbuck's coffee is worth the money, or the toll I pay for the privalege sitting in traffic on the Garden State Parkway is worth the money.

What I do know is that the thought of watching Wilson Betemit play third-base next season was enough to make my physically ill. What I do know is that I rarely left the t.v. room these past four seasons if there was any chance that A-Rod was going to hit that half inning; like I did when Mantle played, and Murcer played, and Reggie played, and Mattingly played. Frankly, a Bernie Williams' at bat wasn't keeping me from fixing a sandwich or walking the dog.

$275 million is a small price (for someone else) to pay if it enables me to watch one of the greatest players in baseball history carry my team for the next five years - alas, for other than Robinson Cano, the not-so-distant-future is looking a little lean offensively.
