Bloomberg Seeks To Question Candidates About Guns

Submitted by Seething in San Jose, Dec 11, 2007 12:16

I read this article quickly, however I did not see any mention of the fact that the FOP and the BATFE itself both supported the Tiahrt Amendment. The reality is that Bloomberg, Feinstein, Schumer, and others wanted to defeat the Tiahrt Amendment in order to fish through the data to conjure up lawsuits against gun dealers, distributors, and manufacturers. Of course, this is exactly why the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act was enacted in the first place. Any manufacturer, distributor, or retail dealer (of any product) who breaks the law should be criminally prosecuted. However, they should not be held liable for the criminal acts of end users.

Such legal attacks against America's highly regulated firearms industry are analogous to bringing lawsuits against Cisco Systems, Intel, and Hewlett Packard because their products are used in cyber-crimes. Do you think Mr. Bloomberg would support such civil litigation? It's the same legal theory!

I believe that the majority of Americans favor Second Amendment rights, and do not approve of dubious lawsuits. As a gun rights proponent, I will be interested to learn of any candidate who earns Bloomberg's endorsement, so I can do my part to help defeat him/her.
