Bedouin Darkness Spreads With Oil Money

Submitted by Barry E Lerner, Dec 11, 2007 23:26

This assessment is spot-on accurate. The Arabs can mount this challenge to the West only through the accident of their living atop a natural resource, a resource that they have neither the technology to extract nor the wherewithal to refine. They have created no significant society, no industrial complex, no real economy. They exist only through income from oil extortion.

Mr. Ibrahim's analysis, while correct, does not take the next logical step, to wit: what do we do about this? My suggestion is that we consider threatening say, Saudi Arabia, with confiscation, that is, we offer them an ultimatum, that they either return the price of oil to, for example, $30 a barrel, or we move in and take over the oil fields. Will the Saudis refuse? Will we have to actually do this? I don't know, but in the uncertain world of prediction, I can assure you of one thing: if we do nothing, we will surely perish, whereas if we do something, we have a chance at survival.
