Taxi Protest All About Taxes, Drivers Say

Submitted by Nick Rivera, Dec 12, 2007 00:59

My hat is off to these taxi drivers for finally revealing the real reason some of them went on strike. The reasons that were being given during the strikes by the drivers and the leader of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, Bhairavi Desai, didn't make any sense. They claimed the equipment always broke down, it created too much heat, and of course, invaded their "privacy." None of it made any sense. But this tax evasion explanation does. Driving a cab looks like an awful job. But it doesn't excuse these workers from paying their fair share of taxes, particularly taxes that maintain the streets they depend on to earn their living.
