I read with excitement the comments of Luigi Tommasino to the New York Sun about Pinocchio. My family, and in particular my father, had a joint venture with Pier Mattia Tommasino, son of Luigi Tommasino, which indicates how global Pinocchio can be !
In this joint venture two twins Pinocchio books have been published in Puri (India):
One in the dialect from Formia (the Italian city, 26 km from Monteccassino, where the exhibition "Pinocchio Amarcord" is located) and another in Oriya language of the state of Orissa (India), one of the closest language to the ancient (root) language 'Sanskrit'.
Both Pinocchio books have been published with the same illustrations of Pinocchio, made by Franco Viola with wood of olive trees from the Montecassino area.
This is a proof of how Pinocchio, in the third millennium, is very able to be both a local- and a global-puppet. In particular, Pinocchio Amarcord, is a message of peace for the children who suffer in war and peace, provided from the artist, Franco Viola, who had his childhood at Montecassino during the long-lasting second world war.
