i'm sorry, while i watched prob 150 g last season, i never once saw the lastings milledge you all seem so upset about losing. for my money we lost a rh, younger version of bobby abreau, at best. he certainly was closer to greg jeffries than daryl strawberry in the time he auditioned. mets started the offseason needing 2b, pitching, catching, good d in rf. preferably lh. Once Castillo was resigned, a no-brainer for the $$$. that left 3 major holes. establishing that milledge wouldn't help in the pitching acquisition. the next best thing would be to use him to fill a hole we needed. it would've been nice if milledege, like gomez accepted a corner assignment graciously, terying to get better. unfortunately i believe milledge sealed his fate after refusing to play winterball to improve his skills. Omar did well in filling 2/3 of the reamaining holes with this underachieving egotist. Note to Met fans: Reyes, Wright, Strawberry, Hundley are what true prospects produce like. the rest are suspects and roster fillers. in milledge's case he's filled 2 roster spots. Sure, he'll get better, playing everyday in cf & batting in the top of the order. Was he ever going to do that in blue & orange? not likely in his 20s. Sure it would've been nice to get more; but nobody offered it! Ever think Beane had valid reason for being disenchanted? the kid just didn't show enough improvement. He couldn't hit offspeed stuff while the only heaters he seemed to get were aimed right at him.
