DiNapoli v. Kipp

They were cited because they failed to properly indicate where KIPP $$ and state $$ were used. Most KIPP schools raise a significant amount of money in excess of the state and federal funding they receive, and as a charter school, they have the discretion to use this money as they see fit to benefit their total school program.

TOTAL SCHOOL PROGRAM means providing sufficient perks to some of the best teachers in the nation to justify them continuing to work at a school where their days are longer and more demanding than at most other schools.

Whatever KIPP Academy is doing, its clearly working - over 70% of its 8th grade graduates matriculate in college...compared to less than 30% of the students who attend school in their neighboring district. If a school financed vacation helps motivate and bond teachers to help them focus the other 210 days a year they teach...who are you to judge?
