The Juilliard Orchestra heard on December 10th, 2007 was originally scheduled to perform the same program in Avery Fisher Hall on a Commencement Concert in May of 2008. To suggest that this program was designed to complement the location of the performance in the Rose Theatre, a performance space for Jazz at Lincoln Center, is patently absurd. Equally fallacious is the association of jazz with my Sinfonia No. 3 that was given its New York premiere by the distinguished American conductor, James DePreist. To describe me as a "member of a loose-knit school of composers that includes Paul Creston and William Schumann" is to create a historical fantasy without any basis of reality. Nothing in any of my music would align me musically or culturally with these composers. The Sinfonia No. 3 has already been described as a powerful, cohesive masterwork of the 21st century.
